How to care for your  lawn in the Summer

With summertime finally here many of us are enjoying the outdoors and spending time in our own gardens. But long periods of dry weather and hot sun can wreak havoc on our lawns. There are a number of things you can do to help care for your lawn during the summer months and here are a few for you to take a look at.

Mowing – first make sure that you have a decent lawn mower and give it a quick check over. If you need any Briggs and Stratton Parts take a look at the ones you can find from https://www.briggsbits.co.uk to make sure that your mower is working effectively. The best way to cut your lawn after a long winter is in stages. Take your time over spring and into summer to gradually cut your grass to the desired length. Cutting too much, too quickly can cause your lawn to die back.

Watering – whilst grass is an incredibly hardy plant, during hot weather it is important to make sure that it is getting enough water. You should only water once a week during the height of summer as you don’t want to flood the ground with water as this will also affect the growth of the grass.

Feeding – nitrogen deficiency can occur as a result of cutting the grass regularly during the summer so it might be necessary to replace this by feeding your grass. A slow release fertiliser is the best option and you should use these during the evening or on a day where it is overcast. Sun and fertilisers are not a good mix.
