Can you imagine being able to create your own version of Ubuntu on the fly? As reported in SoftPedia, that’s what you can do with ExLight, a distribution for 64-bit systems based on the familiar operating system. In addition, it is ideal for the most limited teams.
Its base is Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Yak, although it borrows different components from the Debian Stable and Testing repositories. The latest version is named ExLight Build 170105, which incorporates the Linux kernel 4.9 tuned to support the most modern hardware and the Enligtenment 0.20.99.0 desktop.
The distro has been developed by Arne Exton, who usually includes the Refracta tools in almost all South projects. This is the really interesting thing about ExLight, because thanks to this program we can create our own live system in few clicks. As we have already stated, with ExLight you can do just that.
The main features of ExLight
To make it even more interesting, it has replaced Ubiquity with the Refracta installer. This makes it much easier to install the operating system. In addition, ExLight includes a boot option that allows the user to start a live session directly from the RAM, which allows to extract the installation media.
Among the software included in the distribution are LibreOffice, Synaptic package manager, GParted partition editor, SMPlayer player, Wicd network manager, PCManFM file manager, Google Chrome and NVIDIA 375.26 drivers.
In addition to all this, you will find compilation tools to install programs from the source code. Of course, you can install software using the usual Ubuntu tools. On the other hand, it is worth commenting that ExLight is only available in English. We do not know if there are plans to translate or release it in more languages in the future, but it does not seem likely.
