Daniel Radcliffe and OCD

Daniel Radcliffe is the star of the Harry Potter films, and he has since gone on to feature in a number of other films and plays in theatres. As a young actor, Radcliffe noted that he struggled with his mental health and that he became addicted to alcohol and dealt with OCD. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder causes the individual to have thoughts, feelings, sensations and even ideas that they don’t want and that can be repetitive. It can be very difficult to cope when OCD flares up, and it is one of the reasons that employers should attend Mental Health Training Courses like those offered by Tidal Training.

In an interview with The Sun in 2012, Radcliffe talked about his struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a type of anxiety disorder that he developed when he was five years old, saying he developed the mental health condition at an early age. The compulsion had become so strong that even he found himself repeating back to himself everything he said, the levels of repetition became unbearable.

In order to maintain the secrecy of his compulsive repetitions, he felt that he had to mumble his words. Additionally, he said that the process of turning off the light took him five minutes to complete. Having been referred to a therapist, Radcliffe was finally able to get the help he needed to cope with his compulsions. He says he is now able to control his condition – although he misses his sessions if he does not attend regularly.
