Over the years, Leicester has been associated with some pretty famous people. The squad of Leicester City Football Club are rather famous right now after their staggering success last season but the city is also known for its association with Walkers crisps and Gary Lineker. Frank Benbini is from Leicester but if you’re not familiar with the name, you will be with the band he is drummer for – the Fun Lovin’ Criminals. He joined the band in 2003.
Richard Armitage has been in a number of UK TV dramas and was born in Leicester. He most recently played the character of Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit movie.
Rosemary Conley CBE is a pretty famous name and has been responsible for helping thousands of women to shift the pounds. She is the founder of one of the UK’s most successful weight loss organisations and has released many books and DVDs.
Emile Heskey, the football player, made over 150 appearances for Leicester City and was also a player for the England team.
In history, Lady Jane Grey was thought to have been born at Bradgate Park in the county. She was executed by Queen Mary I, after a plot to overthrow the queen and have Lady Jane Grey take the crown instead, went wrong.
